Journal Notes—July 2014

In America, we are blessed with so many options in our consumer choices. Can you imagine how someone from a third-world country who lives in poverty and hunger would react to shopping in any of our grocery stores for the first time? It would be so
overwhelming that they probably would experience a form of shock.

The responsibilities of community association managers and board members can produce a similar overwhelming feeling. Think about all the many facets of running an association—financial, maintenance, planning for projects and restorations, meetings, legalities—and each of those categories has its own multitude of subsets. The financial category alone includes budgets, reserves, collections, foreclosures, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc. Obviously, to manage an association well takes an abundance of knowledge leading to the question, “how do I obtain the skills and education to manage all of these areas?”

We can help! Florida Community Association Professionals (FCAP), offers an extensive curriculum for managers, board members, and service providers that helps round out their education in association management. Our Advanced CAM Studies is the most comprehensive and concentrated course available in Florida.

With that in mind, we have an exciting announcement. By the time this magazine reaches you, we hope to have our course material available online for remote learning. Not only will you be able to study at home, but you can take the modules at your own pace. Please visit www.fcapgroup.com for details.

Yes, that was www.fcapgroup.com. If you have bookmarked our website, you’ll find that soon you will be redirected to that new URL. We have totally redesigned our website to more conform with the direction we are going. Please browse around and let us know what you think!

Don’t forget to register for The Show: Orlando, scheduled for September 26 at the Orlando World Center Marriott. The event offers another great opportunity to whittle down some of the many service options available to associations by meeting in person with the businesses represented there. It’s kind of a one-stop-shop and an extremely productive way to find the perfect fit for your association’s needs.

Finally, in honor of the Fourth of July remembrance this month, I would like to say how thankful I am to live in this country and have these “first-world” problems of abundance.

May God bless America!
