If you haven’t already done so, you need to plan to attend the Communities of Excellence Conference and Gala on May 13. It will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach. The event will include educational sessions, a trade show, an awards program, and a gala after-party. The awards recognize community associations throughout the state of Florida for their excellence in a variety of areas—there are 11 different categories plus a video showcase—and it is a way of celebrating the hard work and positive events going on within these communities. You can learn more about the Conference and Gala by reading FLCAJ’s interview with COE’s Executive Director, Alan Penchansky on page 22. Register to attend the event at www.communitiesofexcellence.net.

As readers of FLCAJ know, the job of caring for their communities is multi-faceted and requires much diligence. This issue features articles on a wide variety of subjects, such as the different types of roofs and the best way to maintain them, having your community’s attorney review service contracts before you sign them, maintaining a detailed component list so that your reserve plan is accurate, maintaining your parking garage, waterproofing your building, and more. The point is there is a lot to learn and be responsible for as a CAM and board of directors, so please read, learn, and implement plans for improving the various aspects of your association.

As always, we would love to hear from you about any topics you would like to see covered in these pages or perhaps you have a comment about one of the previously covered topics. Please let us hear from you!
