Journal Notes—September 2020

by Michael Hamline, Editor / Published September 2020

September is one of my favorite months. It marks the beginning of fall and football season. It’s also the time of year when we unofficially begin the “kickoff” for the return of the snowbirds. Seasonal residents who have spent the summer months up north return to their Florida paradise to enjoy the pleasant weather while escaping the frigid winter temperatures.

For the past year, I have had the opportunity to work with quite a few of the business professionals and companies you see each month throughout the pages of the Florida Community Association Journal. For me this has been a career change, as for the past 34 years I had primarily been practicing accounting and assisting businesses on a part-time basis as a CPA.  One aspect of work I love most is the opportunity to help others, whether it is with their accounting or taxes, or in my current job helping service providers reach the community and homeowners associations.

As 2020 began, I have enjoyed working with these service providers to recognize them for their quality work and dedication to the community associations with the Readers’ Choice Awards. I have also been privileged to work with our Florida Community Association Professionals (FCAP) service providers.

What is FCAP? FCAP is a membership-based professional organization for those who work, serve, or live in the 45,000-plus community associations in Florida. The primary purpose of FCAP is to train and equip industry professionals with a goal of effective, efficient, legal, and fiscally responsible community management.

This month we are privileged to recognize our Florida Community Association Professional (FCAP) service providers in the pages of FLCAJ through the publication of the FCAP Service Provider Directory. These service providers are dedicated to improving community associations, and if you turn to page 37, you can see the main service each company provides and find contact information for each business. A great big “thank you” goes out to these service providers as they have been supportive of our educational material, programs, and FCAP school courses and curriculum.

If you have any questions or comments about FCAP, please contact our office at (800) 425-1314 or by email at info@fcapgroup.com. Let us know how we can help you in the upcoming months!
