Welcome to the ten-year anniversary of the Readers’ Choice Awards (RCA)! It has been amazing to see the RCA’s growing momentum in the last decade.
When the first RCA took place in March 2014, 3,800 votes were cast, 155 service providers were nominated, and 37 companies rose to the top to receive awards. Fast forward to March 2023, and we counted more than 11,000 ballots cast with 292 service providers nominated, and 204 companies have been recognized as award winners.
There are three levels of recognition: Diamond (top), Platinum, and Gold. Winning service providers were classified in one of the levels according to the number of votes they received. There is no category winner, so multiple service providers in the same industry can attain the same level if they receive similar vote totals.

When I (Connie Lorenz) received the email this year telling me that we had won the Readers’ Choice Award again, I was thrilled! When I received the news, as chance would have it, I was in the middle of cleaning up my office and getting it ready for the new year, dusting off and stacking my previous years’ plaques, and much to my surprise, I counted nine of them! Realizing this was the tenth year that the RCA have been around and that we have been winners ALL 10 years makes us quite proud to be the recipients but even prouder to know that we have such an amazing support system like FLCAJ and its readers!
For those of you who don’t know, I am also an asphalt consultant who oversees milling and paving projects across the state. I spent 42 weeks in hotels in 2022 alone! Not only do I oversee new milling and paving projects, but also I am asked to come in and inspect bad paving projects or at least those that clients think are bad.
I was returning from one of these “bad paving projects” in St. Petersburg when I received a phone call from one of my clients for whom we had just completed some asphalt repairs, sealing, and striping. She wanted to reach out to me personally to share that in her role as a project manager who has overseen many, many crews from landscaping to underground utilities and from roofing to roadways, she had never met a more professional team than mine, starting from her initial phone call to us to her final invoice; and even better, she LOVED my logo!
There are so many times we will reach out to complain to a company about how angry or upset we were with their team, their product, or their performance, but how many of us reach out to say, “excellent job” or “you hit our project out of the park!”?
