Atlantic Broadband was formed in 2003 with the purchase of cable systems from St. Louis-based Charter Communications Inc., which included operations in Miami Beach, FL. In 2012 Montreal-based Cogeco Communications Inc. acquired Atlantic Broadband and set into motion a period of sustained growth: In 2015 and again in 2018, Cogeco Communications Inc. acquired cable properties from MetroCast Communications, adding more than 300,000 homes and businesses to the Atlantic Broadband footprint.

In October 2018 Atlantic Broadband acquired the entire South Florida fiber network from FiberLight, LLC, more than doubling its existing fiber footprint in the region.  Today, Atlantic Broadband is the eighth-largest cable operator in the United States, serving customers in 11 states, with more than 1,400 employees.

Atlantic Broadband Florida operations offer services in South Florida and maintain offices in North Bay Village, South Miami, and West Palm Beach.
